Brief Description of PLOVDIV

Plovdiv is the second large city in Bulgaria with a population of 338,153 citizens. The history of Plovdiv goes more than 6000 years. It is the 10th largest city in the Balkans. Plovdiv has started its development in the Neolithic period around 4000 BC.

Around 340 BC Plovdiv is known as Philippopolis. It was originally a Thracian city and after it becomes Greek and Roman one. Today Plovdiv is known in Bulgaria as city with seven hills. Every year there are cultural events which take place in the city. Also there are many remains preserved from ancient time such as: Plovdiv Roman Amphitheatre, Roman Odeon, Roman Stadium, this is city where every year takes place International Fair of Plovdiv, Ethnographic museum.


 


Brief Description of MONASTERY OF BACHKOVO

Monastery of Bachkovo is the second large monastery in Bulgaria founded in 1083. It is situated in the Valley of Chepelare River about 10 kilometers south of Asenovgrad and surrounded of Rhodope Mountain. The monastery has a long history. Inside of the monastery there are couples of churches. One of them is Church of Archangels.
