Brief description of Bansko

Bansko is a small Bulgarian town located in Southwestern Bulgaria. Its sea level is about 950 meters above ground. Bansko has a population of 13.088 people according the numeration of the population 2011. It is located 157km from Sofia, 145km from Plovdiv, 108km from Bulgarian - Greek border Kulata – Promahonas.

The small town is surrounded by Pirin Mountains Range and it has a wonderful slope which makes it great skiing place. It`s been growing recently and become a famous Bulgarian and international ski resort. There is a river crossing the resort known as Glazne River. It separates Bansko into two parts. One is old traditional part with traditional old houses and Church of Saint Trinity located close to them. Other part is occupied with brand new hotels and ski gondola getting the skiers up to the slope. There is one main ski gondola and couple others taking skiers to different ski areas.

Bansko is located nearby places and towns of mineral springs like Dobrinishte Town, Banya Village. There are swimming pools with mineral water in both of these places. Visitors also enjoy a city tour in Razlog Town which is situated nearby Bansko. There is also a large golf area near Bansko. Bansko is a great place for cultural tourism thanks to old monuments located there. There are couple of houses – museums that were homes of famous Bulgarian poets. Every year an International Jazz Festival takes place in Bansko. There are a lot of locals and other visitors going there to see it in august. There are also different ski competitions which are taking place every winter.

Bansko has also its own old traditional cuisine. Some of the famous meals are: Chobanski Shish, Chomlet, Katino Meze, Banski Starec, Katak, some kind of own traditional yogurt.
